VTrans Public Covered Bridges

There are 80 publicly owned covered bridges, 73 are town owned and only 7 are state owned.

There are two bridges, one in Randolph and the other in West Windsor, that are only 37 feet in length making them the shortest covered bridges in the state. The longest covered bridge, at 269 feet, is located in Dummerston. The oldest covered bridge is in Middlebury, which was built in 1808. Vermont’s newest publicly owned covered bridge was built in Tunbridge in 2004 after the original was destroyed by an ice jam.

Although the Connecticut River covered bridges are co-owned, New Hampshire maintains the inventory for these bridges.
